Fatherhood

We celebrated Father’s Day in June, and if you’re like me, you may not have had a physical father to celebrate.

However, I did celebrate my heavenly Father; the Father of father’s!

I took time out to thank Him intensely for always being there for me, even when I didn’t have a relationship with Him.

I know from experience having no physical father can make you feel like you’re missing something, and the reality is, we are. God made male and female so they could reproduce and provide a stable loving home for their children. But unfortunately the world has made us believe that it’s not necessary. Many people live their lives with no regard for the importance of the family unit and the importance of the dynamics of a male and female in a loving home.

Unfortunately there are some situations where the man and woman are married, they’re together but they’re in turmoil, constantly arguing, fighting and sometimes there is abuse in the home. This was not God’s plan. The bible tells us that when the home is not God conscious, or when the home has no relationship with God, or the adults in the home are not living in obedience to God’s ways, all manner of wrongs can occur.

We were created by God to have a relationship with Him first which then regulates all our other relationships. When we do that from the heart, the way we talk, the way we treat people and the way we live our lives will be morally and spiritually on track.

The same way parents give rules, protocols and advice, our Heavenly Father does exactly the same via His Word, the bible.

What God tells us to do, is for our protection and provision just like what many parents do, to keep us out of trouble.

Romans 8:17, says we are joint heirs with Jesus . The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross gives us an inheritance and a place in heaven when we die. Our relationship with God, through Jesus on the earth, enables us to live a life of victory over challenges and circumstances that try to keep us down.

What Jesus accomplished for us on the cross makes us children of God, when we choose Him and from the heart decide to obey Him.

God wants to shower you with His abundance of love, joy, peace and comfort. He wants you to speak with Him as you would your best friend and a Father. You can pour out your heart to God, cry, sob, dance, sing or even complain. We have so many examples in the bible of real people who showed God an abundance of different emotions. God understands them all. The bible says we do not have a High priest, (that’s Jesus) who does not understand our weaknesses as He experienced them all; betrayal, bereavement, joy, loss, pain, anger, shame, guilt, abandonment. Whatever emotion you may experience, Jesus has had it and conquered it and that’s why we can lean on Him.

Hebrew 4:15 explains that Jesus can help us through all of our feelings, trials and temptations if we ask and allow Him.

Last night I was driving home from an evening at the cinema with my son and a wave of emotion came over me concerning the past events of my life.

I got home and played the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir and just sat listening, and through those songs God spoke to me, he soothed my heart and I cried, danced, laughed and knew that I had a heavenly Father who loves me.

During my teenage years I was sexually abused by a family member. I left home at 16 years old and went to government houses basically for youths that had no one. I had no uncle, no brother and I was far from God, but God knew me and He kept me close, regardless of the various trials I went through.

I don’t know your situation right now, maybe it’s a situation similar to mine or maybe you’re happily at home with mum and dad or maybe you’re at home with mum and dad but there’s conflict. Maybe you only have one parent at home, maybe you’re looked after by extended family or carers, or maybe you’re on your own.

Whatever situation you are in, I need you to know God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. He longs to be your Heavenly Father. And He has a family for you, called the body of Christ, it’s not perfect by any means, but you can pick and choose who you hang out with, Lol!

God has created a place called the Church where you can hook up with other youths who are in Christ, so you don’t have to be alone in your relationship with Him,

Pray to be led to the right Church, or visit a few and ask God to show you where you should be to fulfil your destiny. Remember not everywhere is where you should be. God has a plan for you and His plan is good!

You must be God’s child’s to be a beneficiary of all that Jesus died on the cross for you to have. God is God of all creation, but He is not a Father to all. To become a child of God you must consciously choose him and decide to live in His ways and desire to develop a relationship with Him, by inviting Him into your life as Lord and Saviour.

Do I miss not having an earthly father? I do, I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t, but every time those thoughts come of how unfortunate I am and how much I’m missing out not having a relationship with my dad or his family, I quickly speak to myself and thank God for who I do have in my life and that He (God) is always there for me and my heart is always soothed. Thank you Jesus!

There are some amazing earthly fathers and if you are privileged to have one, you are blessed!

Listen to Matthew 7:11 in the Passion translation, talking about mothers and fathers…

If you, imperfect as you are, know how to lovingly take care of your children and give them what’s best, how much more ready is your heavenly Father to give wonderful gifts to those who ask him?”

Earthly father’s can be imperfect, because no-one is perfect, however, our heavenly Father is perfect and He wants to shower you with all your physical needs, emotional needs, financial needs, relational needs and so forth.

So, if God is not your Father, you can ask Him to be right now. Believe His Word and start a great relationship with Him. He says if you ask anything according to His will, it shall be given to you.

There are many god’s that people serve, but it is only one God who desires to be our Father and that is the God of the Bible. We need to celebrate that and take advantage of His willingness to not only be our God, but our Father also.

Pray with me

Dear Lord, I believe you died on the cross for me and I believe you rose on the third day so I could have a wonderful relationship with you and God the Father. I confess all my sins, make me clean, holy and acceptable. I choose you, come into my heart in Jesus name I pray. If you prayed that prayer from your heart, you have been born again, a new spiritually into God’s family. Send me an email, I would love to hear from you.
